Halloween Costume Inspiration for Students
Halloween is a massive event on the student calendar, with another excuse to go out and get drunk during the week! Sometimes picking a costume can be a bit pricey. Whether you’re the self-proclaimed king or queen of fancy dress, or prefer something a little more subtle, we have put together a list of student Halloween costume ideas that won’t break the bank.
Last Minute Ideas
- Minnie and Mickey Mouse – You’ll need headbands which you may already have from a trip to Disneyland, or you can often find them at stores like Primark or Amazon. With a red and white polka dot outfit or simply all black, you’re good to go!
- Scooby-Doo Characters – This is an ideal costume for Halloween with your flatmates, besties or couples costume.
- Woody and Jessie from Toy Story – Keep it simple with cowboy hats, a checked yellow shirt and cowboy/ brown boots if accessible!
- Violet Beauregarde – Even if you are not good with makeup this is still an easy costume, simply dust some purple eyeshadow or dab some face paint onto your nose and throw on a matching blue tracksuit.
- Minions – This can be a group costume or singular, grab some dungarees and a yellow t-shirt, maybe a pair of goggles.
- Devil or Angel – Simple and effective, all you’ll need to buy is some devil horns or angel wings, throw on a red or white outfit and you’re ready to go.
- The iconic ‘Mia Wallace’ – Mia Wallace’s look on the movie poster for Pulp Fiction is a more sultry idea for Halloween. Grab a black wig, choker necklace, black pants and white shirt/top with a prop ciggy in hand!
- Barbie and Ken – All you’ll need is something pink! Unless you are going for a more specific Barbie or Ken outfit, then you’ll need to head to the costume shops.
- Leopard – Everyone has at least some item of leopard print clothing in their wardrobe. With the leopard spots on your back, you are ready to party.
- Ghost – Worse comes to worse and you have a super last-minute plan, chuck on a bed sheet with some eye holes and you’re a super spooky ghost.

Tips For a Cheap Halloween
- Use items you already own – This can be anything from leopard print clothing, pink clothing, a basic outfit with an extravagant makeup look, get creative with it. Already got a costume from last year? Re-use it or even lend it to a friend!
- Get creative – Upcycle something for your costume, if you have the time, like a hat or crown, you may even learn a new skill whilst creating your costume.
- It doesn’t have to be perfect – Your costume doesn’t have to be identical from head to toe just a few distinctive elements so people can easily identify your costume.
- Don’t buy things you won’t use again – For example if you need a red lipstick for your costume but won’t ever wear it again, borrow your friends, mix some red eyeshadow with a clear lipgloss/ dark lipstick or find the best deal you can if neither of those options are possible.
